Château Roc de Bécot Puisseguin Saint Emilion

Château Roc de Bécot Puisseguin Saint Emilion

WHY WE LOVE IT

  • Château Roc de Bécot Puisseguin Saint Emilion has all the elegance and smooth character of the finest wines from the Saint-Emilion region: fruit-focused wines that display good body and length.
  • The Puisseguin plateau is one of the appellation’s finest terroirs.
  • The average age of the vines is 35 years. The vineyard currently spans some 8.7ha on clay-limestone soils, where Merlot is seen to thrive and grown almost exclusively on the estate (95%). On these well-balanced soils allying the freshness of clay with the excellent drainage of limestone, regular supplies of water are guaranteed to the vine, even during dry periods.

Varietal Composition: 95% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc

Elaboration: The viticultural regime is double Guyot and Guyot. Simple pruning and leaf plucking by machine, then machine harvesting. Vinification using traditional methods in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks. Manual cap punching.

Tasting Notes: Château Roc de Bécot Puisseguin Saint Emilion is a jewel in the Puisseguin-Saint-Emilion crown. Dominated by red fruits and revealing generous body. Enticingly delicious fruit offers lingering flavors on the palate.

PRODUCER BACKGROUND

n 1974, Jean-Marie Lenier took over the family property Roc de Bernon in the Puisseguin Saint-Emilion appellation. The wine was then vinified and bottled by the Puisseguin cooperative cellar. To better control production, Jean-Marie built a cellar and a modern vat room and took charge of vinification, bottling, and marketing of his own label.

In 2015, Caroline and Pierre Bécot, fourth generation winemakers of the family, acquired the exceptional terroir on the plateau of Puisseguin. Today the property is called Bernon Becot. The duos passion for wine was passed on to them from an early age by their grandfather Michel and father Dominique. Caroline and Pierre have challenged themselves to elevate this little-known appellation to the rank of exceptional terroir.
