Cantina Tundernum

Cantina Tudernum was founded in 1958 when 54 winemakers joined together to make wine and cooperatively market their products. It is located in Todi, a central Italian town in the Province of Perugia and the region of Umbria. The village is situated along the ancient Roman-built Via Tiberina and overlooks the east bank of the Tiber River.

Today, Tudernum is one of the largest wineries in Umbria. The fruit of more than 200 growers, representing 350 hectares of vines, are vinified at the cooperative. The grapes are grown within the Todi, DOC, which spans four municipalities.

The vineyards were restructured in the 1990s to focus on greater quality and more efficient mechanization. The winery carefully balances a blend of tradition and technology to enhance the characteristics of the grapes. Almost 2,500 tons of grapes are processed each year.

Typical local varieties, such as Grechetto, Sangiovese, and Sagrantino are grown along with internationally popular grapes, including Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Chardonnay. The Tudernum winery is committed to applying science to its operations. In collaboration with the University of Milan, the cooperative has conducted studies to identify and bring to market the original Grechetto di Todi variety.

Cantina Tudernum’s investments in cellar technology have kept pace with vineyard improvements. They have added soft pressing technologies and processing equipment for red grapes, allowing them to process small quantities of selected fruit to produce superior, award-winning wines. And a new modern facility allows In-house packaging in all formats, from bottles to boxes.
