Cantina Tudernum Umbria Rosso

Cantina Tudernum Umbria Rosso

WHY WE LOVE IT

  • Drinkable red, produced from a blend composed mainly of Sangiovese grapes from the hills surrounding the Tuderte area.
  • Umbria Rosso is made from the Sangiovese grapes so typical of the hills in the region surrounding Todi.

Varietal Composition: Sangiovese, Merlot, other red grapes

Elaboration: Spurred cordon cultivated. Once the grapes are brought into the winery they are pressed and separated through a crusher-stemmer and successfully loaded in fermentation tanks. The must is then left in contact with the peels for 8 to 12 days. After the gross dregs are removed from the wine, it is placed in steel tanks to age for around four months. Following another three month refinement in bottles, the wine is ready to be enjoyed.

Tasting Notes: Sangiovese IGT is a soft, well-rounded and slightly fruity red. Characteristic young red fruits scent. Soft, tannic, with a pleasant acidity.

PRODUCER BACKGROUND

Cantina Tudernum was founded in 1958 when 54 winemakers joined together to make wine and cooperatively market their products. It is located in Todi, a central Italian town in the Province of Perugia and the region of Umbria. The village is situated along the ancient Roman-built Via Tiberina and overlooks the east bank of the Tiber River.

Today, Tudernum is one of the largest wineries in Umbria. The fruit of more than 200 growers, representing 350 hectares of vines, are vinified at the cooperative. The grapes are grown within the Todi, DOC, which spans four municipalities.
