Domaine Anita Moulin-à-Vent La Rochelle
WHY WE LOVE IT
- This wine comes from one of the top vineyard sites in Moulin-à-Vent.
- The grapes are destemmed. The vat is drawn and then matured for a long time in oak barrels.
Varietal Composition: 100% Gamay
Elaboration: Lieux dit La Rochelle, grows in pink granitic soils with a South–South/East exposure. Grown at high altitude (240 meters), this vineyard is 50 years old. The vines are Gobelet trained. The vineyard is harvested and sorted manually. Vinification is 100% destemmed grapes. Cold start pre-fermentation maceration at 8 degrees for 4 days. The total maceration takes 24 days, with daily cap punching. The wine is aged 6 months, with 1/3 in a cement tank and 2/3 in barrels..
Tasting Notes: “You have to pinch yourself to remind yourself that this really is Beaujolais. Very deep wet-earth and black-fruit nose that’s bewitching. Enormous concentration and finesse on the widescreen, velvety palate. With a little more drive at the finish, this would rate even higher, but it still blew our minds! Drink or hold.” ~ James Suckling
